Lunch Box
The "Lunch Box" initiative (suspended lunch box) was launched to provide snacks during break times for children in school, who are from families struggling to meet their daily food needs.
Why is it important for a student's lunch box to be full?
Students who do not receive adequate nutrition struggle to focus on their classes lose motivation/enthusiasm for education, and have increased absenteeism. Many children who cannot bring food to school like their peers try to hide this situation. Mothers who cannot even find the simplest snacks to put in their child's lunch box feel helpless. Children experiencing food deprivation during their growth years lag behind their peers in mental, physical, and social development. By filling lunch boxes, it is possible to enhance the educational success of primary school students, reduce absenteeism, and alleviate some of the financial and emotional burdens on families to some extent.
Nutritional Value of the Lunch Box
Each meal consisting of 4 different items has a nutritional value of 360-420 kcal.Â
This meal meets 30% of a student's daily nutritional needs. (The average daily basic calorie requirement for a child aged 7-10Â is 1,400-1,500 kcal.)
Meal boxes prepared by the local women in the earthquake hit region of Anatolia:
Bagels/Buns/Pastries are freshly baked by women.
Sandwiches are freshly prepared by women.
Fruit juices are freshly squeezed and bottled without additives by women.Â
Products are packaged and served daily, to be consumed on the same day.
